盖儿·露易斯·兰金在1989年8月1日出生于苏格兰佩斯利，在伊格尔舍姆和基尔莫斯长大和有一个姐姐。她就读于梅恩斯堡高中，[2]并在奈兹伍德中学的苏格兰舞蹈学校（Dance School of Scotland）完成6年级学业。[3]她在17岁时取得奖学金在纽约的朱莉亚学院接受培训，亦是该学院的第一位苏格兰学生。[4][5][1]

2012年，兰金在NBC警匪剧《法律与秩序：特殊受害者》的一集中客串饰演荷莉·施奈德（Holly Schneider），首次亮相电视萤幕。[6]
