系統閒置進程（英語：System idle process） SIP 計量中央處理器的空閒度，此進程在後台運行並監控處理帶寬、占用內存和Windows虛擬分頁文件。
會話管理子系統 SMSS 由操作系統的啟動過程（內核啟動的第一個用戶模式進程）執行。執行關鍵的引導時操作，如建立環境變量、啟動客戶端/服務器運行時子系統與引導前的文件複製操作（待執行的文件重命名操作）。在系統運行時它處理Windows文件保護和通過Winlogon新建的登錄會話。.
客戶端/服務器運行時子系統 CSRSS 它是Windows NT操作系統家族中的一個組件，出現於Windows NT 4及後續系統，提供Win32子系統的用戶模式側。其提供了應用程序使用Windows API。
本地安全認證子系統服務 LSASS 微軟窗口操作系統的一個內部程序，負責運行Windows系統安全政策。它在用戶登錄時電腦單機或服務器時，驗證用戶身份，管理用戶密碼變更，並產生訪問字符。它也會在窗口安全日誌中留下應有的記錄。
Winlogon Winlogon的工作包括加載其他用戶身份安全組件、提供圖形化的登錄界面，以及創建用戶會話。在搜集到用戶身份憑據之後，Winlogon會創建一個用戶會話，並加載用戶的配置，例如登錄用戶的所擁有的註冊表項和在域中漫遊的個人文件。在這個會話中Winlogon還會創建一個Windows工作站，在這個工作站中WinLogon會創建如下三個桌面：安全桌面負責顯示系統安全界面、應用程序桌面負責顯示用戶啟動的應用程序、屏幕保護桌面負責顯示屏幕保護程序。
Svchost.exe 微軟的窗口操作系統里專門用來運行DLL程序的前導程序。運行Windows操作系統的機器上會存在多個此進程，每個都在不同的安全環境中運行，其根據服務所需的權限不同而不同。
Windows on Windows 與WoW64 WoW Microsoft Windows NT操作系統家族中32位版本的兼容層，目的是擴展NTVDM以為運行為Windows 3.x編寫的舊式Win16應用程序提供有限支持。64位系統上的「WOW」通常指在64位Windows上支持32位應用程序的WOW64。
DOS虛擬機（英語：Virtual DOS machine） NTVDM 允許MS-DOS應用程序運行在已有其他操作系統運行並控制硬件的Intel 80386或更高等的計算機上。於Windows 2.1被引入，64位元版的Windows中不可用。
系統啟動 （Windows NT）

NTLDR, IA64ldr, Winload 啟動程序，執行基本的系統初始化，例如加載硬體抽象層和引導時設備驅動，優先於將控制遞給Windows內核。在Vista之前的Windows版本中，若boot.ini中有多操作系統，NTLDR和IA64ldr將給用戶顯示菜單，或當按下F8時也會顯示菜單。
復原主控台 它為系統管理員提供一個有限功能的命令行界面，用來對安裝在系統上的窗口操作系統進行修復。恢復控制台可以通過窗口系統的安裝媒體引導；亦可以安裝在硬盤上，然後在開機菜單引導。不過把控制台安裝在硬盤上將會帶來一定風險，因為萬一系統無法引導至NTLDR開機菜單，這樣將會得物無所用。

Windows Boot Manager Windows Vista開始引進的新一代開機管理程序，用以取代NTLDR。當電腦運行完POST後，傳統型BIOS會根據引導扇區查找開機硬盤中標記"引導"分區下的BOOTMGR文件；若是UEFI則是Bootmgfw.efi文件和Bootmgr.efi文件，接着管理程序會讀取開機配置數據庫（BCD, Boot Configuration Database）下的引導數據，接着根據其中的數據加載與默認或用戶所選擇的操作系統。
