1983年，北賽普勒斯土耳其共和國單方面宣布（英語：Declaration of Independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus）脫離賽普勒斯共和國獨立。除了土耳其外，國際社會皆不承認這個事實上獨立的國家。
